Today, at the opening of the US offshore wind event of the year, IPF Business Network for Offshore Wind, we are excited to announce the launch of the white paper ‘Power Outage and ICCP’. In this paper, we provide a much-requested answer to what happens to steel structures protected by ICCP systems during a power failure.
Impressed current cathodic protection (ICCP) systems are used to protect metallic structures in offshore marine environments from corrosion. ICCP systems work with an external power source that drives current through the structure. In certain situations, the power supply to an offshore structure may be interrupted. The result is a time when there is no current flowing through the ICCP system.
This white paper describes what happens to steel structures protected by ICCP systems during prolonged interruptions to the applied current.
