We are proud to announce a new international partnership to further expand our reach and sustainable journey in the Offshore Wind and Maritime market. This time we set foot in Poland where we entered into a partnership with the men from CO-MADE. “Due to the enormous potential and developments in Offshore Wind in the Baltic States and the existing maritime repair possibilities for ships, CORROSION has decided to also collaborate with this local specialist in Poland,” says Manager Offshore Wind Niels Ros.

Let’s make wind truly sustainable

Our resolution for the new year remains unchanged: let’s make wind truly sustainable. Few people realize that many wind farms above water are much more environmentally friendly than below. Like all metal structures in marine environments, wind turbine foundations are susceptible to corrosion.

There is still so much to gain that we continue to spread this message and make people aware of the huge difference in pollution between the traditional protection of foundations against corrosion and a 21st century sustainable solution such as ICCP. Not to mention the difference in footprint that both applications leave behind. In addition, the operating costs are ultimately even lower than with the traditional method.

By helping the industry embrace sustainable solutions we believe can make wind turbines as clean and sustainable as the energy they produce.

Offshore Wind UK

Time for a proper introduction of our new agent Patrick Rabindran CEng from MCPL and the UK offshore wind market. Patrick is a specialist in cathodic protection and will represent us in the UK with offshore wind.
Manager Offshore Wind Niels Ros: ‘The English market is mature but eager to learn. The basis comes from the well-known oil and gas sector and has developed over the years into a real sector of its own. The knowledge and experience available in the UK is unprecedented. But despite years of experience, the UK is open to new developments.
Take, for example, the ICCP system, which surprisingly for many is relatively young, new and unknown. Traditionally, standard sacrificial anodes were used. Now that sustainability is the desired and unavoidable way to the go, the application of environmentally friendly technology is even more important.

New agent Malaysia

We are excited to introduce a new CORROSION agent, expanding our network and service even further. The person behind MSC Maritime Services is no stranger to us. He is our valued colleague and agent of SC Flow Technology in Singapore, Sam Choy. The market in- and around Malaysia is growing and has a lot of potential. Despite the pandemic posing all sorts of challenges, the last two years have been an exciting period for CORROSION, as we have continued to grow and expand– both in terms of where we operate globally, and the range of innovative new products and services we offer today.

Press release – CORROSION expands offshore wind operations in the United Kingdom and South Korea

CORROSION has announced that it is bolstering its presence in key markets in the offshore wind energy sector with the appointment of dedicated agents to serve the United Kingdom and South Korean markets.

Both Patrick Rabindran and Stanley Seo are highly experienced and respected in the cathodic protection sector in the UK and South Korea respectively. Their appointments come at a time of rapid growth in the demand for sustainable energy from offshore wind farms, with these two markets already ranking among the world leaders.

Iron Eating Bacteria

With great interest we followed the news that is currently being shared on various media platforms about ‘iron-eating’ bacteria found in the Gent-Terneuzen canal. The highly aggressive nature of this process, known as Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC), has attracted the attention of corrosion scientists and microbiologists around the world for decades.

This is something that CORROSION and in particular our in-house research laboratory are also aware of and have been investigating. In 2016, on behalf of Rijkswaterstaat and FL B.V., we completed a contracted study into accelerated corrosion on sheet piles, also in the Gent-Terneuzen canal. Our conclusions in 2016 similarly leaned towards the involvement of microbial processes in the accelerated corrosion found on these sheet piles, especially those at the Belgian/Dutch border.

While it is challenging to completely eliminate the problem, especially in open water, there are mitigating options available that can be beneficial to at least get it under control. We look forward to working with stakeholders to get to the root of this issue, but most importantly to find solutions to this problem, using our research capabilities and the many years of experience with corrosion protection methods.
